A Pinch of Salt

“Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed.” -Buddha. Leave your ego at the front door when you go into workplace or when you meet somebody. Just be open don't built a closed space around you, so that you become the undrinkable water in a closed glass. Just take life with a pinch of salt, its not necessary for us to agree with each and everything others say, learn to say NO at the correct moments, else life wouldn't be easy living. A pinch of salt makes all the difference, if added in excess or if its too little, surely does makes a lot of change to the dish. The same applies to our life, don't get too involved with other people's life neither do not ignore your own life too much, maitain a balance in every outlook. Not more, not less, always remember the common salt perspective towards your life. With a right outlook, right attitude and postiveness, absorb...

Two Faces of a coin

Image
Recently, read in the papers that Kolkata is facing a mysterious shortage of coins especially of small denominations like 25 paise, 50 paise, Re 1 and Rs 2, the ferrous stainless steel ones. It’s said that its smuggled into Bangladesh, where they are made into razors and other ornaments. It’s the small shopkeepers who suffered the most and there was a long queue before the RBI for collecting the coins, and the beggars were the better alternatives for coin other than the bank. Officials investigating the disappearance of coins, claim that a one-rupee coin can be melted down to make three or four razor blades, worth two rupees each. The coins are disappearing fast, so fast that RBI had to pump in 900 million pieces of fresh coins only in May to restore the demand-supply imbalance. While in Kolkata, many are suffering due to the shortage of coins, in other part of India even the beggars, bus conductors and shopkeepers don’t even value the 25 paise, 50 paise. When given to them, either we...

Beautiful Borobudur

Image
On the island of Java stands a mountain of a thousand statues...panels at Borobudur surrounded by volcanoes, shrouded in mystery. It conveys the visitor to the heart of the life of Buddha with strong iconographical details. Located at 42 kms west of Yogyakarta, on the island of Java in Indonesia, Borobudur - one of the most magnificent Buddhist shrines in the world - was built at the end of the 9th century by the Hindu kings of the Sailendra dynasty. Although the architect and the artisans were of Indian origin, most of the craftsmen and carvers were Javanese, so Borobudur shows both Indian and Javanese influence. Its estimated to have took 75 Years to build and was completed in 825 A.D. The seat of the Government moved to the Eastern part of Java with royal patronage gone, the shrine could not be maintained and was finally abandoned. The jungle began to creep up around it. Within a few years it was fully covered with creepers, thick vegetation. The local people stayed away from it to...

A Mouse Fable

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package... "What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap. Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it." The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it. The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose. But wish you wel...

Girl with X-ray eyes

Image
A teenage girl from Saransk, Russia, who claims to have X-ray-like vision, which lets her see inside of human bodies, to make diagnoses that often are more accurate than those of doctors. First widely hailed in Russia as "the girl with X-ray eyes," 17-year-old Natasha Demkina has a growing following of patients, doctors, journalists, and others who are convinced her powers are real. In March 2004, the producer of a Discovery Channel documentary on Natasha asked the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) and the affiliated Commission for Scientific Medicine and Mental Health (CSMMH) to scientifically test the young woman's claims. In response, CSICOP research fellows Ray Hyman, Ph.D. and Richard Wiseman, Ph.D., and I designed a preliminary test for judging whether her abilities warranted further, study. After Natasha, her mother, her agent, and the producer agreed to the test rules, we all flew to New York for filming the test on t...

Life , let it shine

This was a forward which i received, but i just like it for the simplicity with which it was told.About our desires and attachment in life. There was a rich King who had 4 wives. He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best. He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave him for another. He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confidante and was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her to help him get through the difficult times. The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her. One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought of his luxurio...

What scares you...

What scares you most in life? We’re not alone. Many people have a fear of something. People are scared of different things, some scared of certain creatures, ghost, darkness while some are afraid of heights, water. Then there are others who are scared of letting themselves down, some are scared of dying and many scared when they come across certain superstitions beliefs, many afraid to undertake long journeys coz they are afraid to travel by plane or train. Many of us here might have overcome our fears too, coz if we back down from our fears, they just cling on to us more. So people, what scares you most and if you overcame the fear, how did you manage that. Back-stabbing by people we really trusted, that's what scares me most in my life. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Franklin D. Roosevelt .

Good deed

There's a saying which goes something like this: Bread cast on the waters comes back to you. The good deed you do today may benefit you or someone you love at the least expected time. If you never see the deed again at least you will have made the world a better place - And, after all, isn't that what life is all about? One day,a poor boy named Howard Kelly, who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you?". You don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness." He said..... "Then I thank you from my heart." As Howard Kelly left t...

The Cookies

How many times in our lives, have we absolutely known that something was a certain way, only to be wrong? A woman was waiting at an airport one night,With several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shops,Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop. She was engrossed in her book but happened to see,That the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be,Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene. So she munched the cookies and watched the clock,As the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,Thinking, "If I wasn't so nice, I would blacken his eye." With each cookie she took, he took one too,When only one was left, she wondered what he would do.With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, He took the last cookie and broke it in half. He offered her half, as he ate the other,She snatched it from him and thought... oooh, brother. This guy ha...
