Outsourcing Post

Image
An Interesting article which appeared in the IANS about postal outsourcing and the Kanjoos britons is worth reading. Postal outsourcing: Britons sending Christmas cards via India By IANS Monday December 24, 02:04 PM London, Dec 24 (IANS) Don't be surprised if you see British citizens queuing up in post offices in India to post Christmas cards to friends and family in Britain. Many Britons have found that the Indian postal system is cheaper and more reliable than Royal Mail. There have been several instances when Britons travelling to India for other purposes at this time of the year have used their trips to carry their Christmas cards along and post them in India instead of in Britain. Amidst a welter of complaints about Royal Mail losing millions of Christmas cards and parcels, several Britons have discovered that the doughty Indian postal system - set up during the colonial era - is a more reliable and cheaper alternative. In fact, it may not be too long before entre...

Body Organs and Massage

Image
The Organs of your body have their sensory touches at the bottom of your foot, if you massage these points you will find relief from aches and pains as you can see the heart is on the left foot. Typically they are shown as points and arrows to show which organ it connects to. It is indeed correct since the nerves connected to these organs terminate here. This is covered in great details in Acupressure studies or textbooks. God created our body so well that he thought of even this. He made us walk so that we will always be pressing these pressure points and thus keeping these organs activated at all times. So, keep walking... .

First love

Sometimes you get what you want... Sometimes you get what you need... It was quarter to one at night when I hit the door bell. My wife opened the door. She had been awake as usual. Waiting for me had become a daily routine for her. Unlike I expected, the house looked normal. I put my laptop on the recliner and went straight into my bedroom, freshened up and got busy with the book - "An autobiography of a yogi." My wife came in with a piece of cake in her hand. "We waited for you till 9. But it was getting late and your parents pushed to carry on and finish", she said handing over that cake to me. Something stung me deeply for it was my daughter's first birthday. I had almost forgotten that I had a daughter and a feeling of guilt told me that I did not deserve that piece of cake; it felt heavy when the first bite went down my throat. "Karthik," she used to call me by name, "look at me", she said. I turned my gaze away from the book onto her f...

Life's Perspective

Yesterday, as i was focussing some objects for a photograph in the macro mode of the camera, i learnt that the camera and our life both represent the same view, towards an object. As i was focussing something that was too close, the objects in the distance gets blurred and as we focus the distant object, the object close by gets blurred. Doesn't the same perspective apply for our life. When we focus on the nearby little goals of life, the bigger goals gets distracted, blurred and we get lost in the circle of smaller goals of life. In the same way when we focus on a distant bigger, main goal, all the smaller goals are by passed, they seem nothing in front of the main distant bigger goal of life we really dream of achieving. Now its in our hands, how we handle it. But sometimes, time too plays a bigger role. At times not everything works according to what we plan. Still we could focus on the bigger picture of life . Apply the macro mode to your life too.

A Pinch of Salt

“Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed.” -Buddha. Leave your ego at the front door when you go into workplace or when you meet somebody. Just be open don't built a closed space around you, so that you become the undrinkable water in a closed glass. Just take life with a pinch of salt, its not necessary for us to agree with each and everything others say, learn to say NO at the correct moments, else life wouldn't be easy living. A pinch of salt makes all the difference, if added in excess or if its too little, surely does makes a lot of change to the dish. The same applies to our life, don't get too involved with other people's life neither do not ignore your own life too much, maitain a balance in every outlook. Not more, not less, always remember the common salt perspective towards your life. With a right outlook, right attitude and postiveness, absorb...

Two Faces of a coin

Image
Recently, read in the papers that Kolkata is facing a mysterious shortage of coins especially of small denominations like 25 paise, 50 paise, Re 1 and Rs 2, the ferrous stainless steel ones. It’s said that its smuggled into Bangladesh, where they are made into razors and other ornaments. It’s the small shopkeepers who suffered the most and there was a long queue before the RBI for collecting the coins, and the beggars were the better alternatives for coin other than the bank. Officials investigating the disappearance of coins, claim that a one-rupee coin can be melted down to make three or four razor blades, worth two rupees each. The coins are disappearing fast, so fast that RBI had to pump in 900 million pieces of fresh coins only in May to restore the demand-supply imbalance. While in Kolkata, many are suffering due to the shortage of coins, in other part of India even the beggars, bus conductors and shopkeepers don’t even value the 25 paise, 50 paise. When given to them, either we...

Beautiful Borobudur

Image
On the island of Java stands a mountain of a thousand statues...panels at Borobudur surrounded by volcanoes, shrouded in mystery. It conveys the visitor to the heart of the life of Buddha with strong iconographical details. Located at 42 kms west of Yogyakarta, on the island of Java in Indonesia, Borobudur - one of the most magnificent Buddhist shrines in the world - was built at the end of the 9th century by the Hindu kings of the Sailendra dynasty. Although the architect and the artisans were of Indian origin, most of the craftsmen and carvers were Javanese, so Borobudur shows both Indian and Javanese influence. Its estimated to have took 75 Years to build and was completed in 825 A.D. The seat of the Government moved to the Eastern part of Java with royal patronage gone, the shrine could not be maintained and was finally abandoned. The jungle began to creep up around it. Within a few years it was fully covered with creepers, thick vegetation. The local people stayed away from it to...

Wesak

Image
Its the buddhist festival celebrated on buddha poornami. The day is a day thrice blessed. The world knows it as Buddha Purnima. Its significance lies in the fact that it was on this day that Prince Siddharth was born, got enlightenment and left his physical state at the age of 80. Vesak or wesak is the most holy time in the Buddhist calendar.Vaishākha is the name of the second month of the lunar Hindu calendar. Wesak is a major festival in many Buddhist countries. It happens on the day of the full moon in May. Vesak is also known as Visakah Puja, Buddha Purnima or Buddha Jayanti in India, Bangladesh and Nepal, Visakha Bucha in Thailand, Phat Dan in Vietnam, Waisak in Indonesia, Vesak (Wesak) in Sri Lanka and Malaysia, and Saga Dawa in Tibet. A Mouse Fable

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package... "What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap. Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it." The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it. The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose. But wish you wel...

Girl with X-ray eyes

Image
A teenage girl from Saransk, Russia, who claims to have X-ray-like vision, which lets her see inside of human bodies, to make diagnoses that often are more accurate than those of doctors. First widely hailed in Russia as "the girl with X-ray eyes," 17-year-old Natasha Demkina has a growing following of patients, doctors, journalists, and others who are convinced her powers are real. In March 2004, the producer of a Discovery Channel documentary on Natasha asked the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) and the affiliated Commission for Scientific Medicine and Mental Health (CSMMH) to scientifically test the young woman's claims. In response, CSICOP research fellows Ray Hyman, Ph.D. and Richard Wiseman, Ph.D., and I designed a preliminary test for judging whether her abilities warranted further, study. After Natasha, her mother, her agent, and the producer agreed to the test rules, we all flew to New York for filming the test on t...

Life , let it shine

This was a forward which i received, but i just like it for the simplicity with which it was told.About our desires and attachment in life. There was a rich King who had 4 wives. He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best. He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave him for another. He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confidante and was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her to help him get through the difficult times. The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her. One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought of his luxurio...

What scares you...

What scares you most in life? We’re not alone. Many people have a fear of something. People are scared of different things, some scared of certain creatures, ghost, darkness while some are afraid of heights, water. Then there are others who are scared of letting themselves down, some are scared of dying and many scared when they come across certain superstitions beliefs, many afraid to undertake long journeys coz they are afraid to travel by plane or train. Many of us here might have overcome our fears too, coz if we back down from our fears, they just cling on to us more. So people, what scares you most and if you overcame the fear, how did you manage that. Back-stabbing by people we really trusted, that's what scares me most in my life. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Franklin D. Roosevelt .

Good deed

There's a saying which goes something like this: Bread cast on the waters comes back to you. The good deed you do today may benefit you or someone you love at the least expected time. If you never see the deed again at least you will have made the world a better place - And, after all, isn't that what life is all about? One day,a poor boy named Howard Kelly, who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you?". You don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness." He said..... "Then I thank you from my heart." As Howard Kelly left t...

The Cookies

How many times in our lives, have we absolutely known that something was a certain way, only to be wrong? A woman was waiting at an airport one night,With several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shops,Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop. She was engrossed in her book but happened to see,That the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be,Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene. So she munched the cookies and watched the clock,As the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,Thinking, "If I wasn't so nice, I would blacken his eye." With each cookie she took, he took one too,When only one was left, she wondered what he would do.With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, He took the last cookie and broke it in half. He offered her half, as he ate the other,She snatched it from him and thought... oooh, brother. This guy ha...

Never ask God...

This is one of the most inspirational story i've come across, cause something bad happens we blame god for it, why god, why me. This simple story changed my perspective towards life. Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983. From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: "Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"? To this Arthur Ashe replied: The world over -- 50,000,000 children start playing tennis, 5,000,000 learn to play tennis, 500,000 learn professional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals, When I was holding a cup I never asked GOD "Why me?". And today in pain I should not be asking GOD " Why me? " .

Philosophy of life

You may have heard a version of this used as a spiritual illustration, but this may just possibly be closer to reality... A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter. He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He then asked once more if the jar was full. This time the students were sure and they responded with a unanimous "YES!" The professor then produced two cans of beer fro...

Memorable dreams

I know, everyone here loves to dream.Well i'm talking about dreams we see when asleep, not day dreaming.Have you ever seen any dream so beautiful, scary or memorable that you would like to share.Like there are certain dreams which we see repeatedly...or some we get a deja vu feeling.c'mon lets share our dreams. A dream you have at night will never be seen absurd to you while it’s happening. You live your dreams as if they represent the most realistic & logical situation in the world. Once of the weirdest dream i ever had was that i saw my left arm was amputed and i woke up from my dream and i lifted my one arm with the help of other arm and it fell senseless on the bed, i started crying at nite...after a few minutes blood stared rushing back in my sensless arm & i could feel it as a part of my body. Actually i kept my arm in a same position for a long time blocking the blood flow and it got numb. I can never forget that dream, it was so real and quite scary to me. ...

Life's best day

What was the best day of your life? A day which one can never forget, for it happens to be 'the best day of my life'.Many such dayz may come in futher, but until now this happens to be the best one.So ,What was the best day of your life? I can't say its the best day of my life, but ya,most memorable one. It happened sometime back, when i was returning from kerala to delhi,it was the first time i was travelling alone by flight and the flight was a direct one.As we reached GOA,the weather b'came bad, and the plane was always in some air-pit all the time, well as passengers we were worried and the pilot kept announcing, not to worry (that made us more tensed),heavy lighting outside! ...and we couldn't land in goa,due to terribly bad weather, and the flight was directed to Bombay. At bombay it was almost some 10hrs wait for us to catch a connecting flight, but there i got some friends and we roamed around the airport ...and finally...in a guest room of the airport we met ...

Interesting Logo's

Image
Amazon.com Logo You might think the arrow does nothing here. But it says that amazon.com has everything from a to z and it also represents the smile brought to the customer's face. Wow, that is quite deep. FedEx Express Logo Not sure how many of you have noticed a hidden symbol in the Federal Express logo. The 'arrow' that you can see between the E and the x in this logo. The arrow was introduced to underscore speed and precision, which are part of the positioning of the company. SUN Microsystems logo The SUN Microsystems logo is a wonderful example of symmetry and order. It was a brilliant observation that the letters u and n while arranged adjacent to each other look a lot like the letter S in a perpendicular direction. Spectacular. Reader's Digest Stable Magazine The above are two magazines from the Readers Digest stable. Again, the attempt to communicate what it is about quite figuratively through the logo catches my attention. IBM Logo This was a logo designed in-ho...

Change -law of life

Does change means we're always begining in someway? Does change help us grow as a human being? Are we ready to welcome change in our relaxed life? Change, its scary. Its hard. Its needed. Sometimes it feels good; other times it feels bad.But one thing is for sure. It keeps on happening just when our life seems settled. The world changes, life moves on. There are always new things to do and learn.I believe variety is the spice of your life and there should be constant change in life, be it good or bad,i'm ready to risk it & i'am quite curious by nature :-) .

Movie Magic

There are lots of movies, which had touched your heart feelings, and simply made you cry or made you laugh out of control or simply make you think. Superb...that's all I can say for 'The Shawshank Redemption'.Hope that lits the path of freedom. The Count of Monte Cristo, it isn't just revenge, but it's "justice".Watching that guy be betrayed like that & go through hell & then seeing him rise and making them pay makes you feel great. Also Forrest Gump, Braveheart,One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest too,Gangs of New York. Spirit- Stallion of the Cimarron, Hercules and Finding Nemo for the concept of the "Indomitable Spirit" A Walk in the Clouds,Sweet November,When Harry met Sally, How to Make an American Quilt for human relationships. i like Rang de basanti among the recent movies, for i believe justice delayed is justice denied. Also Swades, Lakshya, Dil Chata Hai, Mitr for ceratin reasons i liked. Jaane bhi do yaaron, Chasme Ba...

Life is all about

Have you ever thought what is the purpose of your life? what is the meaning of life? what is life all about? I saw this question in a magazine, still a good one coz everyone has a different perspective of life. Life is a masterpiece you create, you can make it better or you can make it worse but Who wants to make it worse. I do believe that Believe in yourself,Follow your heart & Live your dreams.Don't let negative attitude effect you, be optimistic and if you believe in miracles, it do happens. We live the life of a goldfish, swimming in the same orbit every day...inspire your life, motivate it.Change is a vital part of life. Life is too precious to waste it, coz we live only once.So enjoy every moment of your life. At times life is totally unpredictable. "The winds of grace are allways blowing, but you have to raise your sail." Sri Ramaskrishna .

Murphy's Law

If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong. If there's more than one way to do a job, and one of those ways will result in disaster, then somebody will do it that way. How many of us here believe in Murphy's law.I just wonder why its alway happens at the worst time...being unable to find the car keys when you are in a hurry; getting a flat tyre on your bicycle when you are kilometres from home; rain in the afternoon when you did not take your raincoat to school (it was sunny when you left home in the morning); and missing the bus because it is early for a change. Most common... when i reach office early the boss is late and when i reach office late the boss is early. This used to happen a lot during exams time, what all question i would miss reading, would be staring at me the next day in the question paper. One thing which happens to me mostly is you find good things to buy of your choice when you don't have a penny in your pocket! And when i go there again with ...

Heart or Head ?

Ever feel that tension between your heart saying, "Yes", and your head saying, "No"? Well how do you make the decision? Do you follow your heart or your head when making the big decisions in life? i do mostly listen to my inner voice(heart or mind),coz many a times i had never followed it due to which i regreted certain decisions later. So, now i do follow my heart mostly. But to keep thinking about a problem beyond a certain point is bound to create confusion. There comes a time when more thinking and investigation are harmful. So we must decide and act and never look back. If ur decision goes wrong, try to work on it,improve it. If you want to fill your mind with negative thoughts it b'comes the evil mind and if you fill it with positive thoughts it becomes a pure mind. Now thats up to you, how you cultivate the thoughts. Good and bad have to co-exists.Else how would you appreciate the value of goodness. .

Final Farewell

Image
Dream life as if you’ll live forever; But, live life as if you’ll die today Some people come into our lives and quickly go, some people move our souls to dance, They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom, Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon; they stay in our lives for a while, Leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same. How truly said…never knew the bye I was saying to my uncle and cousin would be the final one………two people, so close to my heart ….whom I adored very much. After spending 4 memorable years at my hometown , I was traveling back with my family to Delhi…a reunion…. in search of better opportunities. Just 10 min. left for the train to depart, my uncle holding my hands for a long time just looked at me …..His eyes looked quite sad…why he gave that look, I still don’t know. Did he know or feel what was about to come????? Don’t know, but still that look really quizzes me, even today. My cousin came jus...
